Processing times for ETIAS applications will vary from one application to another. Delays range from a few minutes to several days.

Response times to ETIAS requests

Processing an ETIAS application online will take just a few minutes in most cases. However, in some cases, treatment will take much longer. There are 4 different types of response times provided by the European administration:

ETIAS request answered in minutes

The questions on the ETIAS form will be easy to answer, and the ETIAS system will be able to provide an answer in a matter of minutes. Around 95% of applications will therefore be approved electronically, without the need for additional human checks.

Response to ETIAS request within 4 days

Where a request requires further verification, processing time may be extended to 4 days. This will happen when the information needs to be cross-referenced with other security or immigration databases based on the passportinformation provided for travel to Europe.

Response to ETIAS request within 14 days

In some cases, the traveler will be required to provide additional information or documents. In this case, the request may take up to 14 days to be processed after submission of the required information. During this extended processing time, the ETIAS application will have a pending status.

Response to ETIAS request within 30 days

In a few rare cases, ETIAS will require an interview with the applicant. This may take up to 30 days. This procedure will be applied when in-depth checks are required for security or immigration reasons.

When should I apply for ETIAS?

It is advisable to submit the ETIAS application well in advance of the departure date of the planned trip. Although most requests are dealt with quickly, you need to leave enough time to deal with any requests for additional information or documentation.
