When will ETIAS authorization be launched?
ETIAS authorization will soon be mandatory for visa-exempt travelers wishing to enter the Schengen area. The introduction of ETIAS has been repeatedly postponed by the European Commission.
The European Commission is now planning the official launch of ETIAS for the end of 2026.
The system will enable travelers from ETIAS-eligible countries to request an electronic authorization online before their trip to Europe. Applications must be submitted online via the official ETIAS website or the dedicated mobile application.
Travelers will need to apply early to avoid delays. Approval is usually immediate, but some applications may require additional time. ETIAS does not guarantee automatic entry into the Schengen area. Local authorities will make the final decision at the border.
The new system is designed to improve border security and control short-term stays. More official information is available on the European Commission website.
