Yes. Brazilian citizens will need to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization to enter the Schengen Area. The system is expected to launch in 2027.

Brazil is one of the countries exempt from the Schengen visa requirement, which means that its citizens can travel for up to 90 days within a 180-day period without a visa. However, with the implementation of the ETIAS system, prior online authorization will be required before any trip to Europe.

Will Brazilians need a visa in addition to the ETIAS system?

No, not for short stays. The ETIAS system does not replace a visa; rather, it is an additional mandatory step for visa-exempt nationals, such as Brazilians.

A national visa (Type D) will be required for:

  • Studying in Europe ;
  • Working or doing a paid internship ;
  • Settle in a member country for more than 90 days.

In that case, you must go through the embassy or consulate of the country in question.

Pay the ETIAS fee of €20 by credit card. The ETIAS system is free for those under 18 and over 70.

Present the valid Brazilian biometric passport used for the application when checking in. The ETIAS system is electronically linked to this passport.
